Description

NATO Sensors and Electronics Technology (SET) Panel 189 Research Task Group (RTG) on “Battlefield Acoustic Sensing, Multi-Modal Sensing and Networked Sensing for ISR Application”.  The primary goals of SET-189 were to develop or identify and assess emerging technologies in the areas of battlefield acoustics; in particular, the detection, classification and localization of transient threats (sniper, mortar, launch, and explosion), intruders/personnel, light ground vehicles, and small airborne targets. Specific focus was on sensing from UGS, aerial platforms, atmospheric modelling, signal processing, multi-modal sensors, fusion techniques, and networked sensing.  ISR applications included persistence surveillance to protect ground forces operating in the battlefields and peacekeeping areas, border surveillance, forward operating base protection, and distributed ground operations.
